Nancy.

At work today, a fellow RN named Nancy predicted to me that the baby will be a boy. She said (and several other nurses testified to her behalf) that she has accurately predicted the sex of every baby that has been born by staff on that floor... which apparently has been about 5 babies in the last two years... as well as accurately predicted the sex of all of her 6 grandchildren. She also stated that she predicted what their names were going to be and that she has a sixth sense about these things. I'm not going to release the name that she predicted we would choose, I'm not sure about it for a first name, but it is one that I like for a middle name. Not only can she predict the sex of current babies-to-be, she can also predict the number of children that one will have and if they will be boys or girls or whatnot. I guess she hasn't been wrong yet. She should open up some kind of business, I bet there are plenty of ladies who would pay to have this information. It seems that her error rate is far less than that of the draino test... and so far it is even better than the error rate of a 20 week ultrasound... but I suppose she'll need a few more predictions before we can scientifically change her psychic abilities from theory to law.

Sickness.

Me and the baby just recovered from a horrid 24 hour stomach bug adventure. Around 2am on Saturday morning I woke up to find that I was pukey and I was also having a lot of contractions. After throwing up a while, I thought that maybe I would feel better and that I probably just ate something that baby didn't like. The contractions kept getting more frequent and more painful and I started getting really bad back pain and I was pretty sure I was going into pre-term labor. I was pretty scared. I called Katie (midwife) who promptly came over to my house and checked me out and assured me that my cervix was still closed and that baby was not going to be joining us any time soon. So I called into work and told them that I was sick and wouldn't be there that evening, and then I settled in for a fun-filled day of sickness. Baby either A)loved it when I was sick; or B)absolutely hated it when I was sick - because baby was going completely NUTS and was just bouncing around like a little chipmunk in there. It was probably the most uncomfortable feeling ever when I was already feeling nauseous and baby kept punching me in the belly. It was moving around so much that even Joe (who doesn't notice much movement) could see my belly jumping around. It was like my stomach was one of those Mexican Jumping Bean things and the baby was the little worm inside that was making it pop around like crazy.

So anyways, on Sunday morning I felt a lot better (not completely better, but decent) and I decided to move on with my life and go to work that afternoon. Work went alright and I survived the night, even though baby still seemed a bit traumatized by the events of the weekend and was still acting like a little fruitloop and causing some mild contractions. Today we feel much better though and are going to go run some errands now. Fun stuff.

Kicks and Bones.

Baby is becoming quite the little circus monkey. It used to have a moderately predictable daily wake/sleep schedule, but seems to have switched to the slightly more chaotic way of life where it no longer needs sleep. It moves around all day. Sometimes it makes such a big movement that I can see my belly jump. It also enjoys hitting my bladder a lot... and my ribs. It LOVES my ribs. Especially on the left side. I saw a chiropractor last week because I pulled a muscle on my scapula and it was horrendous! After pushing around on my belly for a while, she told me that the baby seems to have had a recent growth spurt and is currently enjoying hanging out on the left side (which I kind of figured) and has done the hard work of pushing my ribcage out of balance which has in turn pushed my shoulder-blades out of balance which put my muscles in strain and furthermore led to the muscle spasms which paralyzed me for those 2 or 3 days. So she kind of tried to push the baby out of the left side, but it kept going right back over there, and then she made some adjustments to my spine. She said that the manipulations took very well and that she thinks that I'll be good as new in no time. She also figured that my sciatica is being caused by the fact that my sacrum is not centered and is left-leaning (probably from that accident a few years ago involving me and my couch). So she pushed and cracked and all that jazz and I left feeling much better. I think baby liked it too, as it seemed to have put it to sleep.

On a completely different note: On Monday I got my first "when are you due" from someone I didn't know. It was a man with one glass eye and one eye with advanced macular degeneration. And then yesterday a coworker asked me the same thing. So there is my current tally: two people have noticed that I'm pregnant.

Only 15 weeks left!

Some Cheaper Stuff :)

In case anybody is thinking about getting us anything (like for the baby shower... or whatever) you could also look on craigslist. There's lots of good baby stuff - seeing as how most people only use it for a couple years then have to get rid of it. Here's the duluth one: http://duluth.craigslist.org/bab/

The Duluth one actually has the exact high chair that is on our Target registry! Plus, there would be less packaging waste from Craigslist :)

"DittleBittle" etymology

And now a little bit of intellectual stimulus for the knowledge-hungry:

For anybody who may be wondering the pronunciation for DittleBittle, it is roughly "Didtoe Bidtoe", as in the Breezish phrase from which it is etymologically derived: "Oaow wukadah Didtoe Bidtoe BĂ©yebeh." Which of course, itself, has it's roots planted loosely in the english language.

Bellies!

Here's Breezy's Belly! It's fun to look at them all together, not only because they're all so cute, but also to see how it's changed. It starts on week 6. That's around when she was the smallest. She's definitely starting to show now! (Week 21 is today) Edit: Oops, that's actually week 22 I guess!
